Do I really need help with my Operator’s Licence?

Everyone needs a second opinion from time to time. As specialist transport lawyers, we can provide valuable advice whatever size your business.

It may be that you just need someone to look over your application, or it may be that your application has been refused. You may have had a request for further information from the Traffic Commissioner and need help preparing a letter of response. Whatever it is, you’re in safe hands with Pragma Law.

Here are just some of the things we can help with:

  • Bespoke advice on the application of a certain law/exemption to your business;
  • Assistance with drafting and implementing driver and staff policies;
  • Help with improving your current maintenance systems and procedures;
  • Assistance with paperwork, including operator licensing applications, making changes to your O licence, improving your paper trail for your systems and procedures;
  • Advice in relation to material changes which need to be notified to the Office of the Traffic Commissioner, and on the most appropriate way to do this;
  • Guidance on acceptable driver incentives to improve compliance;
  • General queries on all types of road transport and motoring offences.

Just because your issue isn’t on the list, it doesn’t mean we can’t help. If it’s Operator Licence related, you’ve come to the right place.

If you used the word ‘VOSA’ or the ‘Ministry’ (rather than the DVSA), then there’s a good chance you’re not keeping up to date with the most recent developments in the industry. Over recent years, the level of regulation surrounding the transport industry is almost second to none (excluding certain professionals such as solicitors and doctors perhaps!).

Compliance is becoming a full-time job, and not everyone has the time or resources to do it. Whether you’re a driver operator or a large haulier, everyone’s subject to the same rules and certain standards are expected.

Pragma Law can help you with as much or as little as you’d like. We can come out to see you and will tell you honestly what we think you need help with. The decision of whether you choose to take our help is entirely up to you, and we’re not in the habit of scaremongering.

I haven’t got time for this / I can’t afford help

We’re here to relieve stress, not add to it. If you choose not to take our advice, that’s up to you, but at least you’ll know what the issues are. Our fees are very reasonable too – just try us.

Why should I get help now? I’ll instruct a solicitor if and when I need one.

Unfortunately the majority of clients we act for instruct us only when they need help getting out of trouble. They’ve been called to a public inquiry, have a prosecution pending, or have received a poor report following a DVSA visit.

The reality is that getting advice or representation at that late stage is likely to be far more expensive and the procedure far more stressful than if they’d taken advice at the outset. Even completing application forms incorrectly regularly results in operators being called to a public inquiry or at the very least, causes them significant delays.

Instead, let us help you now and you can concentrate on running your transport business.
